Hair Up vs Hair Down - The Great Debate

Updated: Apr 29, 2020

So you're not sure whether you want your wedding hair to be styled loose and natural, or in a glamorous updo, I'm here to help!

Let's start with the good, the bad and the ugly of wearing your hair down for your wedding or special event. Most of us know whether or not our hair will hold a curl throughout the day. Unfortunately it's a small percentage of woman with a particular hair type that can have their curls hold for days on end; the rest of us are at a loss. As a stylist there is only so much I can do, I may be able to help your curls last a bit longer than normal, but the weight of your tresses will pull them out by the end of the night, especially on very long, heavy hair during a humid and sweaty summer day. That's not to say we can't compromise! If you're absolutely, 100% set on having your hair down I would suggest a large, loose, flowing braid as an alternative. This way your hair is secure, but you can still have the movement, length and feel of wearing your hair down, without the worry of curls falling out or loosing volume at the top from the weight of your hair. On the other other hand, if your wedding is being held in the cooler and drier months between September and March you may be able to get away with elegant curls or a delicate half up style without the worry of your style falling by the end of the night.

Now for updos! If you were to ask me what I suggest, 9 times out of 10 I will side with an updo for any occasion. The reason being that updos have the potential to last all day long, through sweat, humidity, hugs, and they're wonderful for accentuating a beautiful neckline and facial features! There are so many different options for a beautiful upstyle, from classic chignons (the fancy word for a bun), to textured and tousled, you can even incorporate braids for a pretty accent. The best part about wearing you hair up for your wedding is that you never have to worry about it! With enough hairspray your style is sure to last throughout the entire celebration
